The Rzone — Respect and Responsibility

The Rzone is a new zero tolerance operating procedure that has been developed for the Town of Oakville Departments of Recreation and Culture and Parks and Open Space. The Rzone procedure enforces zero tolerance of violence, vandalism and inappropriate behaviour for participants and the general public in all town owned facilities, programs and properties.

This procedure is intended to improve the safety and leisure environment in all Oakville recreation and cultural centres, facilities, parks and programs. Participation in recreation and sports promotes healthy active living and a safe environment in which violence and harassment are not tolerated will support and encourage continued participation.

The “R” in the Rzone logo stands for Respect and Responsibility. Respect for Yourself; Respect for Others; and Responsibility for all your Actions. The logo will serve as a reminder to staff and the public that the operating procedure is in effect and applies to everyone: coaches, parents, players, performers, audiences’ and visitors.

The Rzone operating procedure comes into effect October, 2005. Attached is the Rzone Brochure for general information. Additional, and more detailed information is available on the website at www.oakville.ca/rzone.htm
